What font does McDonald’s use?

McDonald’s refreshed its global brand in 2018 with a typeface named after Speedee, its original 1948 mascot. On the web it is the only font in use. We were redirected to the Dutch site, which shares the global template.

Short answer: McDonald’s website uses Speedee, a custom sans serif made for the brand, for everything from headlines to buttons. It is self-hosted on mcdonalds.com.

The main font stack in the CSS:

font-family: Speedee, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, "Segoe UI", Roboto, "Helvetica Neue", Arial, "Noto Sans", sans-serif;
  • Letter spacing is slightly negative everywhere, about -0.009em on body text, which is unusual for a 16px paragraph.
  • Only the Regular and Bold files are downloaded on the home page. Text set at weight 600 renders with the Bold file.
  • The fallback chain is the common system stack, so a visitor without the web font sees their device’s interface font.

About the fonts, and whether you can use them

Speedee

A friendly geometric sans serif designed for McDonald’s by Colophon Foundry with Leo Burnett London. A Light cut exists too, loaded under a separate family name.

Can you use it? No. Speedee is McDonald’s proprietary typeface. Outfit and Figtree are free geometric sans serifs with a similarly round, open feel.

On Google Fonts: Outfit, Figtree.

This starter uses Outfit, which is open source, with the sizes and spacing measured above. It is an approximation, not a copy of McDonald’s brand typeface.

How we checked

We opened mcdonalds.com in Chrome on November 5, 2026 and read the computed styles of its visible text: the declared font stack, the font actually rendered, and how much of the page’s text each family sets. That is the same data the Font Inspector extension shows under Fonts on this page. We re-check these pages periodically, and the date above shows the last inspection.
