RELEASE NOTES
What is new in
Font Inspector.
The Chrome Web Store updates the extension automatically. A release can take a few days to reach everyone after it is published.
Version 2.1.0
The biggest update so far: a faster way to pick text, the font that is really rendered, the whole page at once, and help getting the font.
- Pick mode. Choose Pick text on page or press
Alt + Shift + F, then hover and click any text. Use the up and down arrows to move between parent and child elements. - Rendered font. The panel names the font the browser is actually drawing and flags it when a fallback is showing.
- Fonts on this page. Every family on the page, ranked by share of text, with weights, sizes and fallback warnings. Hover a family to outline where it is used.
- Font source. Each family is labeled as Google Fonts, Adobe Fonts, a self-hosted web font or a system font.
- Get this font. Links to Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts, the font files a page loads with a ready
@font-facerule, and free look-alikes for paid and system fonts. - More detail. Variable font axes, OpenType features, text transform and decoration, when a page uses them.
- Works inside iframes and embedded frames.
- Library. Collections, import, export as CSS variables or design tokens, save all fonts from a page, and compare up to four fonts side by side.
- Dark mode, with light, dark and system settings.
- Inspect Font without selecting text first. Right-click anywhere on the text.
- Copying now also works on plain http pages.
Version 2.0
A redesign from the ground up.
- A new popup and inspection panel, with click to copy on every value.
- A library that keeps the fonts you inspect, with pins and export.
- Size in px, em and rem, colors in several formats, and the element’s selector path.
- Less tracking: analytics were reduced to anonymous feature usage.
Version 1.0.7
Font Inspector learns to speak your language.
- The interface and the store listing were translated, now covering 52 languages.
Version 1.0
The first release.
- Right-click any text and choose Inspect Font to see its family, fallback, size, weight, style, line height, spacing and color.
