Your fonts are
your business.
This page describes what the Font Inspector extension and this website collect. Last updated September 20, 2026.
The short version
- Your library of inspected fonts, pins and collections is stored locally in your browser. It is never uploaded.
- The extension never sends page addresses, page text or your browsing history anywhere.
- The extension sends anonymous usage statistics so we can see which features are used. There are no accounts and no advertising.
- Free look-alike suggestions are computed inside the extension, with no online lookup.
The extension
What stays on your device
Every inspection you make, along with pins, collections and settings, is saved in the browser’s local extension storage. Clearing the extension’s data or uninstalling it removes this data. Export your library first if you want to keep it, because there is no cloud copy.
What is sent
The extension sends anonymous usage events to Amplitude, an analytics service. Each event carries:
- a random identifier created when the extension is installed, not linked to any account or to you;
- the extension version, Chrome version, operating system name and interface language;
- the feature that was used, for example that a font was inspected or a value was copied;
- for an inspection, typographic properties of the text: font family, size, weight, style, line height, letter spacing, text color, the font source type, whether a fallback was showing, and the HTML tag name of the element.
Amplitude receives the request’s IP address and derives an approximate location from it for aggregate statistics.
What is never sent
- the address or title of any page you visit;
- any text or content from a page;
- your browsing history;
- your name, email address or any account information, because the extension has no accounts;
- details of your device such as screen size, hardware or time zone.
Permissions
The extension runs on the pages you open so it can read the styles of the text you point at. It uses storage for your library, the context menu for the Inspect Font entry, and access to the active tab to start pick mode. It does not read or change anything unless you start an inspection.
This website
- Analytics. We use Yandex Metrica to understand which pages are useful. It records page views, clicks and session recordings of visits to this site, and it uses cookies.
- Install links. Links to the Chrome Web Store include the page they were clicked on, so we can tell which guides help people most. They contain nothing about you.
- Website font checker. The address you enter is fetched by our server and the result is cached for a short time. We only request public pages, without cookies.
- Feedback forms. The feedback and uninstall forms are provided by Tally. Whatever you type there is sent to us through Tally. Please do not include sensitive information.
- Fonts. All fonts on this site are served from our own domain. We do not call Google Fonts or other font services.
Questions or requests
Since the extension has no accounts, we hold no personal profile to look up or delete. If you have a question about privacy, or you want the content of a feedback message removed, write to us through the feedback form.
